IBR Staff Writer Published 10 January 2012

Specialty underwriting manager, Breckenridge Insurance has expanded its commercial property operations by forming a program business underwriting facility, Blue River Underwriters to accelerate its growth in the program business sector in the commercial property markets.

The new facility will be based in Breckenridge's suburban Atlanta headquarters. Two veteran commercial property underwriters Michael Marks and Jared Mathis have been appointed as chief property underwriting officer and vice president respectively
.
Blue River will be headed by Joseph Filardo, the executive vice president for programs of Breckenridge. The company will continue to operate underwriting centers in Fresno, California, St. Louis and Las Vegas, US.

Prior to Blue River, Marks worked as a commercial insurance broker program administrator where he managed a $25m property portfolio. He also held executive positions with AIG and Markel.

Mathis served in underwriting, account management positions with surplus lines over brokerage firms and directed a $10m commercial property portfolio for a managing general agent program administrator.

With the formation of Blue River, Breckenridge will extend additional programs throughout 2012. Currently it offers 10 specialty insurance programs to retail agents and brokers.
